United Methodist Women
UMW SUNDAY
September 19
8:00 & 10:30 a.m. Service
United Methodist Women is a community of women whose purpose is to know God, and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
We are organized for Mission! We are not a group to be joined lightly, where membership has no meaning. United Methodist Women is a Missional organization with responsibilities to all members in each unit and for a world-wide program of Mission outreach. Our hallmarks are Mission, inclusiveness, continuity from the past, flexibility to meet ever-changing needs, providing leadership opportunities and financial support, and a willingness to move out into new and adventurous paths. (United Methodist Women: In the Middle of Tomorrow by Barbara E. Campbell)
Grace UMW Circles
We presently have six women’s circles at Grace
United Methodist Church. The circles are active in supporting many charities as
well as in service to church events and needs. It is also a wonderful fellowship
opportunity. We meet Sept. through May. Below is a list of the circles
with a brief description of each and the chairperson to contact for more
information. We welcome new members. Please feel free to contact either
Jackie Mickley (944-3948) or Connie Yager (944-6212), 2010-2011 UMW Co-Presidents, if you have
further questions.
AZURE - Meets
the second Thursday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at member’s homes. The general age
range of the group is 70 and up. Some of the works they are involved in are
making nut cups for shut-ins, making receiving blankets and supporting a family
at Christmas. Their Sept. meeting is a picnic at the city park.
Their chairperson is Janice Swanson (944-5898).
EMERALD -
Meets the third Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. at member’s homes. The general
age range of the group is 20-40. Their main fundraisers are the caramel sale
and the book fair. One of their main ministries is supporting a family at
Christmas. This group has a spring outing in May and gets together socially
over the summer months. Their chairperson, Deanna Huddleson (944-9444) says their group provides good fellowship time for
moms.
OPAL - Meets
the second Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in member’s homes. The age range of
the group is 40-60, but all ages are welcome. They make and sell apple pies at
the church in October to support several charities, including families at
Christmas. Their chairperson, Sandy French (441-5839), invites women to check
the group out-they are a fun bunch of girls.
PEARL - Meets
the second Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. at member’s homes. The general age
range of the group is 55-70. In the past few years, the members have been
raising money for local missions by running the concession stand for the church
softball league in the summer. Those monies are allocated for needy families
throughout the year, but especially around the holidays. Janet VanDerSchaaf
(944-6357) is their chairperson.
ROSE - Meets
the second Wednesday of the month at 9:00 a.m. at the church. They have coffee
from 9:00-9:30 followed by the meeting. The age range of this group is 60 and
up. They do not have a fundraiser, but support their missions by donation.
Their chairperson, Barb Erdman (944-3241), comments that the group is
trying to find their place in contributing to UMW as they grow older.
VIOLET -
Meets the second Monday of the month at 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the church in
Albright Hall. There is a wide age range in this group. It is diverse. The main
charity of this group is Royal Family Kid’s Camp, but they also support other
charities as the members propose throughout the year. Their chairperson, Susy
Coleman (944-0757) and Amber Williamsen (441-5980), comments that child care is provided in the church nursery
during their meetings.
*Please note: Meetings at
member’s homes are on a volunteer basis.
